You can find scarves in many varied shapes, although most commonly they are square or a long, thin rectangle. Square scarves are often folded into a narrow strip and used as the long, thin rectangle may be used.
The thin rectangle is used for wrapping around the neck, around the waist or around the hair. Small square scarves are handy to make into decorations like rosettes, or to knot simply around the wrist or neck.
The classic square scarf often has borders or bands around the edge. They are designed and are not simply a square piece of fabric cut from a larger piece.
Sometimes and more so in particular types of fabric you will find pieces that have been cut from larger pieces of fabric and then hemmed. Edges and hems on a scarf will often show the quality of the scarf.
This detail can ruin a scarf when it is not up to standard. Cheaper scarves are generally machine stitched on the edges and more expensive ones are hand hemmed. The higher quality chiffon scarves are rolled and hand hemmed.
Some heavier fabrics are woven on a loom individually with the edges finished in the process.
Whether you have rectangular scarves, square scarves or any other shape, women’s silk scarves always make your outfit look fantastic!
